在日ビルマ人らおよそ500人が18日、都内で集会を開き、ビルマ軍事政権が11月7日に実施する予定の総選挙は、不当であり、非民主的だとして、中止するよう訴えた。
参加者らは、JR恵比寿駅近くの公園から、民主化運動指導者のアウン・サン・スー・チーさんの写真を掲げながら、「日本政府と日本国民の皆さん、ビルマ軍事政権が強行する不当な総選挙を認めないでください」と声を上げ、JR千駄ヶ谷駅近くの公園までデモ行進した。
参加した在日ビルマ人のタン・スエさんは、「総選挙を国民は認めない。なぜなら、総選挙は、軍事政権のための選挙であり、国民のための選挙ではないからだ」と話した。
ビルマの総選挙管理委員会は20日、アウン・サン・ス・チーさんを有権者名簿から除外した。
これにより、スー・チーさんは総選挙に立候補できないだけでなく、投票もできないことになった。
