１９６９年長崎県島原市生まれ。早稲田大学卒業。
１９９４年からＮＢＣ長崎放送報道部記者に。
１９９８年よりフリーランスとなる。アフガニスタ ン、エチオピア、チェチェン、イラクなどの戦場で取材を続け、通信社や新聞、雑誌などに寄稿。
２００４年イングーシ共和国取材中、一時ロシア秘密警察に拘束される。
２０１０年４月、アフガニスタン北部のクンドゥズ州で武装勢力に誘拐され、現地時間の９月、５か月ぶりに解放。

Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
