国連人権理事会によると、サフラン革命では軍事政権の武力弾圧によって、APF通信社の長井健司記者を含め31人が死亡し、74人が行方不明としている。
在日ビルマ人で民主化運動グループのリーダーの男性は、「大勢の国民が殺された。そしていまも多くの国民が不当に拘留されている。私たちは本当の民主主義が欲しい！」と訴えた。
